Who pays for senior care in Oklahoma?
Most Tulsa families pay privately at first; Medicare covers only short skilled stays, home health and hospice; SoonerCare pays long-term nursing home care for eligible residents; the ADvantage waiver pays home care and assisted living services (not room and board); LIFE PACE serves eligible Tulsa residents; and VA Aid and Attendance helps eligible veterans and survivors.
The rule that surprises families most is the room-and-board gap: ADvantage can pay for the care in an assisted living center, but not the rent and meals, so a resident's own income must cover those.
Where can Tulsa families get free help with benefits?
The INCOG Area Agency on Aging at (918) 584-7526 serves Tulsa, Creek and Osage counties, Grand Gateway at (918) 783-5793 serves Rogers County, EODD at (918) 682-7891 serves Wagoner and Okmulgee counties, and the Medicare Assistance Program gives free Medicare counseling at 1-800-763-2828.
